Do you know that children who eat breakfast-especially high-fiber cereal- may be less likely to develop type-2 diabetes later in life, researchers say. Among a racially mixed group of 4, 116 schoolchildren ages 9 and 10, a quarter said they usually skipped breakfast. Those kids had higher levels of blood glucose and insulin resistance ( risk factors for developing type 2) than did children who said they ate breakfast every day. Among the breakfast-eaters, kids who ate high-fiber cereal had fewer diabetes risk factors than did those who ate other types of breakfast foods. The kids who ate no breakfast tended to eat higher-fat and less and less-healthful foods the rest of the day.
